Vocal Music Program
The Oriental Arts Center Choir is dedicated to fostering a passion for vocal arts through structured choral training, ensemble singing, and a cappella. We welcome individuals in the Greater Detroit area (including Windsor) with a basic foundation in singing who wish to enhance their vocal skills, serve the community, and promote cultural exchange between Eastern and Western traditions.
Choral Training: Improve vocal techniques through bi-weekly rehearsals and sectional training.
Bel Canto Method: Enhance voice control, range, and expression with classical Bel Canto techniques.
Performance Opportunities: Participate in local, national, and international concerts.
Masterclasses & Workshops: Learn from esteemed vocal experts and guest artists.
Cultural Exchange: Engage in diverse musical repertoires blending Eastern and Western traditions.
- Schedule: Rehearsals from September to June, with a two-month summer break. Additional rehearsals before performances.
- Evaluation: Members must pass performance assessments to ensure readiness for concerts.
- Artistic Director: Supervises and holds the final authority on repertoire selection and interpretation.
- Choir Committee: Appointed by the Board of Directors and responsible for daily operations.
- Section Leaders: Selected by the Artistic Director and Choir Committee, responsible for organizing sectional rehearsals and ensuring section quality.
- Attendance: Members must sign in for every rehearsal.
- Performance Readiness: Each rehearsal and performance includes an assessment of members' familiarity with the repertoire.
Open to individuals who align with the choir's mission and have a basic vocal foundation.
Entry via audition or member recommendation.
Applicants may attend one free trial rehearsal.
Auditions are conducted by a panel including the conductor, section leaders, and a quality management representative.
Successful candidates must pay membership fees to join.
